MEET EVERETT

Running for Iowa House of Representatives, District 96

Hi, my name is Everett Chase and I’m running to be your state representative. I grew up in a small trailer on my grandmother’s farm with my Mom, Dad, and four siblings. My grandma used to rent out our farmland to a nearby farmer whom my family still works with to this day. He would alternate between soybeans and corn in our two fields. My siblings and I would venture through the corn creating hidden forts amongst the tall stalks. This was my childhood, like many others throughout Iowa. Even though we would often joke about Iowa being a state of ‘corn as far as the eye could see’ I think most of us would miss it if we ever left, I certainly would. That’s why it saddens and angers me to see our home being bought out from under our feet, on the very soil that has fed our country for generations. Giant agriculture corporations work year-round in Iowa to buy our politicians and force family farms out of business. They fill warehouses with animals so dense that they have to give them antibiotics just to survive. The conditions of these facilities are abhorrent and work to monopolize the production of meat no matter the cost. As your state representative, I would make certain protections exist for independent farm operators so they can keep their independence.

Of course, Iowa is made up of more than just farmland. We also have an abundance of small businesses and large corporations. I work for the largest employer in the united states, Walmart. That’s right that Walmart. I’ve worked at Walmart for the past three years starting in lawn and garden then eventually to my current position as a photo lab associate. If you live in the Anamosa area chances are I’ve probably helped you before. You may be asking yourself “Why would I vote for a Walmart associate?” I’ll tell you why. Because I’m willing to fight for the working class, I am the working class. I’m tired of seeing politicians work against our interests. Against the interests of our teachers, against the interests of the middle and lower class, and against the interests of our state. Its time somebody stood up and fought back with an unconventional way of solving our biggest problems, I hope I can be that somebody.
